It’s been a lovely start to the year so far.
I’ve been off work so have allowed myself to focus on exercising and relaxing in equal measure, and have done a bit of houseclearing which is always a good thing.
My boyfriend Giles is keen to work out more this year so I made us both a workout plan for the week. On Wednesday we set up a little gym in the living room with a couple of yoga mats, a step ladder and a kettlebell. Doing the workout at home made it very accessible, particularly as Giles doesn’t want to take out gym membership.
We did a leg and cardio circuit from Kayla Itsines’ Sweat app. Essentially it was 30 minutes of squats and lunges, stepping up on the step ladder, burpees and things like that. We built up a right sweat, and it was fun to go though it together.
Last year I ran and did yoga consistently, but I have plateaued with my weight loss and I know I need to weight train and do circuits to shift this last bit and tone myself up.
I just have to try and fit it all in when I go back to work, but that should be fairly easy in January when I am predominantly working from home.
In the evening we went to a hot flow class. Giles has never taken to yoga but I really want him to try it and fall in love with it like I have. He has done the odd class before but the enjoyment of yoga comes when you’ve done it a few times and start to feel you are making progress.
This particular class was really challenging. Hot, sweaty and hard. I struggled and so I really felt for Giles, but he did every posture!
Yesterday we woke up with such leg ache! It was really uncomfortable, but in a good ‘I worked out’ kind of way. On my plan was an 8 mile run (12.87 Km) and Giles was due to run 4Km.
I sat around all day, doing some life admin, watching movies and generally faffing. In the late afternoon Giles went out and did his run, he actually did 5Km in the end. I then set off to do my run but my legs were so freaking uncomfortable. I ran 9Km in total. It took 1:01:39, so a bit ploddy, but I walked a bit due to the legs).
It’s not been very often that I have done over 7Km distance when I run on my own so even though I didn’t run the planned distance I was pleased with it.
Mental note: don’t make long-run day the day after leg day!
We are travelling away today to visit family but coming home tomorrow night. Our intention was to do an arm and abs workout this morning but there were too many other things to do before we left. We will have to try and fit it in tonight or tomorrow instead. Then Sunday is another run and a yin yoga class.
It’s a good start.
I definitely feel that with slightly better organisation I could have got to the yoga studio more, but will try to improve that next week.
