The final activity in the VITAL Signs reflection is to establish our values. This can be quite challenging, which is why we have completed all the other activities 1st as they will help us with this one.
So far we have done these reflections:
‘I am’ where we wrote 8 words that positively describe our character. We then wrote out examples of when we have shown these attributes in our behaviour.
A list of our interests – to see how we like to spend our time and money. An insight into what we actually like doing rather than stuff we may say we are interested in but literally never do. How we actually spend our time and money helps us see this.
A list of all the experiences we are proud of – our meaningful tasks and accomplishments.
A list of our strengths. What are we good at?
When we look at all these activities together what do they tell us about who we are? Do they tell us about the sort of values we have?
Below is a list of different values and today’s task is to take that list and tick any of those values you feel describe you.

Be careful to only be ticking things that you can support with the work in the other activities. For example, you may think one of your values is being charitable. But maybe if when you look over the other activities you can not find any charitable examples in you list of interests or in your I am activity or in the meaningful tasks you have done in your life then it maybe something you aspire to be, but isn’t strictly something you are right now. And that is ok, this activity may help you see areas you want to focus on more in life.
Once you have gone through the list you may have a lot of values you believe describe you. Can you then find some common value themes that describe you in just 4-6 words?
For example you may have the values, hard-working, conscientious, driven, professional etc, you could put the ease all together under the theme of Strong Working Ethic, for example.
Well done to all that have participated in this 10 Days of Wellness programme. I hope you have an incredible creative season. See you in 2021!
