Tuesday morning last week was great with my sub-30 5Km. I also went to the gym to do a leg workout and got a 60 minute hot yoga class done too.
Can you see where this is going? The title is the clue.
On Wednesday I stuck to my training plan which was a back and arms workout and 30 minutes bike cross-training.
These weight training sessions are the LDNM Bikini Guide training programme that was something I used for my Kilimanjaro training and I’d say this was the time in recent years I felt the fittest.
LDN Muscle are 2 sets of brothers who have put training plans together for men and women alike.
Although it’s called the Bikini Guide, which sounds like the terrible ‘beach-ready body’ bullshit that I utterly do not condone, it is actually referring to the ‘bikini’ classification of female bodybuilding. So it’s way more pro-female and all about being strong and healthy. Big tick.
The workouts aren’t long and alternate between a week of low-repetition sets with heavy weights, then low-weight high-repetition sets the following week. Each day of the week you focus on different muscle groups so that your muscles have time to recover whilst you work other body parts.
That said, by Wednesday I had such severe leg DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) that I didn’t feel like I could run. I should have gone to yoga but really just couldn’t face doing anything.
On Friday I was still in the clutches of leg DOMS when the upper body DOMS began. 😫 I realised that I had hit the weight training too hard too soon and it was now impacting my running training! I managed to get to yoga in the evening – encouraged by one of my fave teachers taking the class and it felt sooooo good I kicked myself that I hadn’t been on Thursday as it would have really helped my aches and pains.
At the weekend I went to a wedding. It was one of the most fun weddings I’ve been to in ages and needless to say despite dancing for hours there was no other formal exercise over the weekend.
So this week I want to be a bit more measured in my efforts aiming for 3 runs, 3 yoga and maybe 3 weight training (one more than last week). I feel this is achieveable on a quieter working week when I’m not travelling.
Then today everything suddenly changed for my week workwise. What looked to be a nice quiet week now involves lots of travel (to Wolverhampton and Exeter) and I am just trying to work out how to fit stuff in.
On one hand I’m a bit annoyed that last week wasn’t better from an exercise perspective, but I had such a great weekend with all my friends at the wedding. In my journey of finding happiness in my life this weekend made me so happy. Seeing lovely friends getting married, feeling so proud of my boyfriend for playing all the ceremony music, seeing my darling friend Lucy singing, partying hard with friends I’ve known for years and years, seeing people I’ve not seen for ages, staying at my friends and getting to spend time with her two beautiful children. Just everything about it.
The best.
