Last week I had big aspirations. I was away with work and in reality there was barely any downtime. Other than yoga and a LISS session on Monday, and a few sun-salutations in Paris, I didn’t achieve any of my exercise plans!
I have a half marathon on 13th May and so it’s the running I need to be doing. On the training plan I needed to do an 8 mile run yesterday (I didn’t do it) and interval training on weekdays. Avoiding all running isn’t going to get me round that 13.1 mile trail run but that seems to be my current strategy 😬
Yesterday I went to yoga, and despite having not been since Monday I really enjoyed the class. I practiced alongside my friend Lucy which was great motivation. At the end of class I decided to do some work on my headstand and managed to crick my neck. I’m so annoyed with myself.
Last night I slept badly because of the discomfort in my neck and so I am kind of feeling that this week has all-in-all been a bit of a set back.
Steve has booked us in for a 10 mile run next Sunday as part of our half marathon training, and although I missed the 8 mile long training run yesterday I am not going to beat myself up about it. I think it would be better for me to try and do a few short runs this week rather than doing the 8 miles today and then not running again till the weekend; which tends to be the way I operate.
I am heading to the SW tonight for a course tomorrow, so today Giles and I are going to do a 5Km run and then go to hot flow yoga at midday.
Throughout the rest of the week I want to do 2 interval sessions and one slow run and as much yoga as possible.
I’m away from tonight till Tuesday night and working out and about on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so not sure how it’ll all fit.
Last week I made a definitive plan and couldn’t make it work, so maybe just having an end goal and trying to fit things in when I can this week will work better, I don’t know. I really don’t know how people fit everything in!
Nevertheless, today is May 1st and in the last 4 months I have achieved my goals of running a race each month to gain a medal. In fact, I have 6 medals in 4 month. Also I wanted to do a minimum of 10 yoga classes a month and I have now done a total of 75. So, I am actually smashing my goals which feels great.
As it stands the races I’ll be doing in May are a 10mile race in Alton on Sunday 7th and a trail 1/2 on 13th May in Bewl. I’m also quite keen to get 16 yoga classes in this month if I can.
May is my birthday month. I am turning 37 and would like to feel fit and healthy. Whilst I have seen a definite improvement in my flexibility with regular yoga practice I don’t feel I am getting the cardio I need to see or feel an impact. It’s 3 weeks to my birthday and I want to try and really get the next 3 weeks diet and exercise nailed so that I turn 37 feeling good.
