After I wrote my blog this morning a few things happened. Firstly, overwhelmed with the number of people posting on social media that they had entered the London Marathon ballot for 2018, and with a little encouragement from my running partner Steve, I too signed up!
So there is that. At the rate my running is currently going I could certainly do a marathon in April if I kept it up. I just hadn’t planned to sign up; it’s amazing what a bit of hype can do.
Then Giles (the boyf) and I went for a run. Giles and I have only run together once recently and today I started at his pace which was too fast for me and so whilst we were set for a good 5Km time by 3Km I was down to walk-running. We came in at 31:45, which is fine. I know I need to do more interval training, which will help with my pace. So that’s the plan this week. As ever.
I hurt my back/neck yesterday and was planning on going to the hot flow class at midday, but as it’s a lot of upper body work I just felt it wasn’t quite the right thing. There was only one other class I could make, a 60 minute Bikram at 5pm. So I booked in but had some doubts about going as:
- I had a sore neck
- I had already run and didn’t want to overdo it on Monday and then tail off exercise for the rest of the week
- I had to drive 2 hours afterwards and didn’t want to get to my destination too late
- I had already showered and washed my hair after morning run
- All of the other excuses!!
As I contemplated whether or not I would go I re-read my mornings blog and it actually motivated me to go. My own words staring back at me made me go to yoga and I am so pleased they did as I utterly loved the class.
I’m beginnng to feel really strong in my practice. My postures are getting good and I am loving it. I love how Bikram yoga works for my body and mind and what a fab feeling of achievement you can get from every class; good or challenging. I sat outside afterwards and a girl complained how hot she found the class, we chatted a bit and I said ‘without the hot ones you’d never appreciate the cooler ones’ and it was a lightbulb moment for her.
I get this yoga. I get why you can’t fight the heat, how it teaches you about life and equanimity. Just being able to share that with one other person so it helps them to see the benefit and why to just let it be the way it needs to be made me very happy.
That’s the yoga.
