Over drinks and discussions on Sunday I learnt a bit about Intermittent Fasting, an eating pattern where you eat for 8 hours a day and fast for 16. My brother, mum and step-dad have been eating like this and have had good results. Reading about it I have learned that Intermittent Fasting (IF) results in weight loss, reduced sugar cravings, improved mood (beyond the initial ‘hangry’ stage), improved sleep, increased energy and disease prevention.
On Monday I decided to give it a go. I woke up early in Holland and survived on black coffee until I got back to London at around Midday where I met Giles for lunch.
I was pretty hungry during the fasting hours but the coffee helped keep my hunger pangs at bay. I then ate normally (plant-based vegan, within my calorie allowance for the day) until 8pm when I began my next fast.
My plan is to eat like this for a few weeks to see how it goes and if I like the results I will keep at it until my brothers wedding which is now 8.5 weeks away.
After lunch we went home and I spent the rest of the evening catching up with Giles, resting in a hammock in the garden and I had a lovely nap too. However I did completely neglect to workout or do sun salutations. Minor error! That’s two days in a row I forgot.
I was meant to be doing this daily practice to get myself into a routine – but forgetting to do my daily practice the last two days isn’t great. Onwards and upwards.
