So I have been taking some rest days, lots of them.
On the Monday after the 10km race I did a 30 minute bike session in the gym. I really like doing a bike session the morning after a race as it loosens up my muscles and works out any residual soreness. I took Tuesday as a rest day and Wednesday, and then also Thursday. They were busy work days, but looking back I could have done some exercise if I chose to!
On Friday I did a 75 minute Bikram yoga class and then on Saturday 17th I travelled to Vienna with work. Arriving into Vienna I had completed 5 yoga classes, 5 runs and 3 XT sessions in June so far. The runs totalling 42.32Km. So it wasn’t looking too bad at the midway point of this month. I arrived in Vienna and had to do some work at the conference centre so I went in my running kit and ran the 2.8Km back to the hotel afterwards: (Running total now 45.12Km).
I spent the next 4 days there working, socialising, eating and drinking. I had 4 busy days with no exercise. I had 3 days at home before heading off to Montengro where I would be on holiday for the rest of the month. With that in mind I needed to get some yoga classes done and so I did 2 Bikram classes on Thursday, one on Friday and a Yin class on Saturday but no running.
Leaving for my holiday I had just one more yoga to do to meet my monthly target, however my running training had completely fallen to pieces. It annoys me as when I look back there are zero legitimate reasons for me to have not gone. I haven’t been sick or injured, just busy and unwilling, and really it’s mainly the latter.
I need a find a viable solution to this. I do find having a target number of yoga classes a month successful. Maybe I need to adopt this technique with running to make me more motivated. I do have a training plan, but maybe if I just broke it down into how many runs I need to complete each month, or week I could better manage my terrible running avoidance.
Then on Sunday 25th Giles and I departed for our activity holiday in Montengro, a week of hiking and kayaking, wild swimming and other such things. I packed my running stuff and yoga mat so there is some hope of good things!
