Today is race day.
I’m doing a 10Km run in Richmond Park, a beautiful location – but a bit hilly if I recall.
I have been woken up before my alarm clock, thanks to the morning hunger pangs of the little ginger fluff-ball. Eaten the breakfast of champions; a bowl of gluten free porridge with blueberries and strawberries and a dash of oat milk accompanied with a coconut oil coffee.
Coconut oil is one of my faves, and a great addition to any diet. A teaspoon stirred into coffee is not only yummy, but is also can help boost energy levels. The medium chain triglycerides in coconut oil are rapidly absorbed and metabolised as fuel, rather than as fat. So despite putting a lump of oil in your coffee it helps to give you useful energy – not just more cellulite, and it is thought to help speed up the metabolism. It is also good to help boost the immune system. Around 50% of the fatty acids in coconut oil are lauric acid, the same super healthy fat found in human breast milk which helps starve off colds and keep your immune system in good check.
I think I’m going to make a nice protein smoothie to have on the drive to the park too so I have plenty of energy and then my aim is to just make it round the route in one piece. 10Km in about an hour is the aim. I am still a bit off the level of fitness I had when I completed my last 10Km race in about 55 minutes, so I will just stay positive and get through it. My friend Steve who got me into the Run Every Day challenge is coming to race too, so we will have a celebratory lunch afterwards that we can look forward to! I mean it isn’t even raining, so its really turning out to be a pretty good morning for it. Then I will be back in the hot room at 5pm to stretch out before a nice relaxing evening at home with Giles and Clifford.
I want to plan for my week ahead, not just my happy life project to do list, but also for work so I feel ready and prepared. I think this helps me feel more in control of my life and helps to keep any anxiety at bay.
Best go get ready for my run now…..
