After running 10Km yesterday I felt amazing. It was after my run that I got the idea to start my happy life project. I decided to start this blog and so I spent the whole evening setting it up and making the header. The header is made from a picture I took when kayaking in Scotland last year as part of the Coast-to-Coast challenge.
A normal person would faff around with the blog for an hour or so and get bored and head to bed at a reasonable time. Not me. I started in the afternoon and went to bed at about half midnight. My brain was wired with ideas and excitement and I struggled to sleep.
My plan for today was to get up and do some sun salutations, go for a short recovery run and head to hot yoga later in the day. Due to the late night and restless sleep, this morning was a struggle but I decided to start easy with the sun salutations. They are an amazing introduction to flow yoga. The practice is repetitive, which I like as you can evaluate your own progress over time. A long while back I downloaded an app onto my phone through which you can either play a video for visual and audio guidance, or just play the audio. Once you’ve got the movements practiced, the audio guidance alone helps to make sure you are breathing at the right points and you can zone out and focus more on how you feel, rather than watching the screen.
This morning the sun was shining and so I set up my mat on the patio outside to do a few rounds in the cool, crisp, winter air. It was glorious. 4 rounds = 2 flows on each side. Just a handful of minutes to get the heart pumping and the muscles moving.
After a nice vegan smoothie for breakfast I headed out to do my slow, short run. I ran down the hill to a 1Km point, did a short loop round the green and back up the hill with some run/walk intervals. It was a slow and steady 2.6Km, but the perfect recovery run after yesterday. So 2 out of 3 of my days plans have been achieved, and maybe I’ll get to yoga later for the hat trick!
