This week my exercise has been pretty reasonable considering how busy I have been with work.
On Monday I had an early morning flight to Paris and at the end of my working day checked into my hotel and did a 20 minute yoga practice in my room before dinner.
On Tuesday I woke up and went to the gym to do 30 minutes cross training before work. I was in the gym at 7am which was 6am UK time which makes me think I really could make more effort to use the pre-work hours more effectively!
I had intended to get to the yoga studio on the way home from the airport but the traffic was horrendous and I missed the class I was aiming for so I went home and once settled there I didn’t want to venture out again for a later class so I didn’t.
On Wednesday it was Giles’ birthday and I had a busy day at work followed by dinner out with him so it was a planned rest day.
Thursday I was working from home, preparing a presentation for a training session on Friday. I spent all morning sat on the sofa tapping away and I had therapy at midday.
I feel like therapy is working well for me at the moment. I’m picking away at my life, how I think and live, and as I go through this process I am getting more clarity about how I want my life to unfold and how to work towards my higher purpose.
After 39 years on this planet, hurtling towards my 40th birthday, it feels like there are many steps I still need to take to reach an understanding of that purpose, but having a space to talk though my thoughts and feelings really helps.
After therapy I did a quick 2 mile run around the common, in 17:26. That’s pretty fast for me. Over the last month I have managed to do a long run every week but haven’t done many shorter runs and I feel like I need to make time for shorter tempo runs, interval training and hill sprints.
I booked in the half marathon I’m doing next weekend to help me to be motivated to train. I have definitely done more training than I have done for a while but really not more than the long run, yoga and very intermittent weight training.
I am kind of tempted to book a marathon so that I can keep up the training, but I am also aware how time consuming that is. So I am thinking I might book a few more half marathons and see if I can keep up he training I am doing but also add in more short runs so that I can get my half marathon time better and more comfortable.
On Thursday evening I went to Bikram yoga, and did a 60 minute class. It’s been my only class this week and that is frankly not enough!
I’m away this weekend so there is no chance for more hot yoga. Also because of being away I decided to do my long run yesterday afternoon. I was due to do 18Km so I added a little distance to the 16Km route I did last week and it was actually OK. There were a few tough bits but several times where it felt pretty good. I completed it in 1:58:08 which is a pace of 6:33/Km. That’s 6 seconds per Km faster than last weeks 16Km run.
So all in, things are feeling good for the race next weekend. I still want to dig out the time it took last time so I can aim to beat that.
