I went to a Bikram yoga class last night for the first time since before the yoga retreat and had a significant breakthrough.
I’m planning to write about the yoga retreat when I get a little time and also about my plan for exercise beyond the 66-day challenge, but so just want to share what happened last night.
My practice made a giant leap forwards!
The warm up postures were fine, no major change there but my breathing was good and when I got to standing head to knee the teacher Paul gave me some encouragement and I got my head down on the right side for the first time EVER!
On the left leg I was able to straighten my kicking leg, but I wasn’t able to bend my elbows down YET.
Then I had the easiest descent into toe stand and on both sides was able to lift my hands, even if it was only for a short while.
After 9 years of practice I am thrilled to have finally been able to achieve these postures. They aren’t perfect but I am closer that I was yesterday and that is what matters.
All my years of yoga practice has also taught me to not be attached to the postures or the progress. Today my body may react differently, I might be tighter or more flexible so it’s important to not have attachment to the shapes I made yesterday. I have learned to appreciate each experience for what it is; acknowledging and honouring impermenance.
