I could have worked out on Wednesday morning, but after a late return home on Tuesday I needed sleep more. My flight to Dublin on Wednesday afternoon was at 15:50 and so I would get into my hotel at about 17:30; which meant I could either do a cross training (XT) session or interval training at the hotel gym. I psyched myself up for doing intervals as I don’t want them to be too close to the long run this weekend.
After checking in I changed into my gym kit in my room.
I visit this hotel every now and then and know they have a gym but couldn’t quite picture it, but when I got there I realised it was the horrific mirrored-wall one that made me feel rubbish doing the Run Every Day challenge in January.
The treadmills are at a 45 degree angle in front of a mirrored wall, and so you get to have a wide angled view of your lumps and bumps jiggling away.
I immediately got on to the treadmill, trying to keep the momentum going for an interval session. I started with a walk but I just couldn’t make myself run. In my head I just kept thinking how phenomenal it is that I haven’t lost weight this last 4.5 months. I’m clearly not doing this right.
I did a 30 minute uphill walk for my cross training and some stretches in my room afterwards.
Despite the negative feelings I had whilst on that treadmill I am pleased that I am just about keeping on plan.
By the end of the working week I had done 1 x yoga class, 1 x 3Km run and 1 x 30 min XT. I took a rest day on Thursday as I felt I needed sleep and just couldn’t face getting up to do intervals as it would have had to be in that awful gym.
On Friday I went to meet my mum for a joint belated Mother’s Day and my birthday lunch. I had to leave home at around midday but managed to leave and get to the gym for a quick intervals session 1st.
On any other day I wouldn’t have bothered, but I did it and felt really good for it.
Lunch was at The Retreat Restaurant in Richmond, which is vegan and was lovely. We had a super time and it was a great way to start my birthday celebrations.
As we had lunch I learned that my brother would be over on Sunday to stay the night as he needed to be in London on Monday, so a new plan was formed that Giles and I would go to Mum’s for lunch on Sunday.
Birthday weekend celebrations may make exercise a bit more challenging. Let’s see!
