Over my time in glorious Goa I completed:
- 18 yoga classes totalling 21.5 hours
- 6 meditation sessions including silent sitting and yoga nidra.
- A soul reading
I made some new incredible friends and decided to reflect on my 2017 intentions and make some new ones in line with the progress I have made this year so far.
As of today, I have completed 73 yoga classes in 2017 and have 5 race medals. Today ran a 10 mile race for my 6th medal of the year.
I had little chance for training for today’s run as running in Goa didn’t feel very safe so I didn’t go at all! I did a 5Km on Tuesday which was my 1st sub-30 5Km in ages. The race today was so hilly, like the first 5 miles was just so hilly it felt impossible. Steve and I had planned to maybe run the first 2Km and then for every subsequent Km we thought we could run for 800m and walk for 200m. The plan was to come in at 1 hour and 45 minutes. We had to adjust the plan to walk some of the more steep uphills and run as much of the flat and downhill as possible.
I’ve run about 15Km in the last 5 or 6 weeks so really have done very little run prep. Despite this, and the hills (have I mentioned the hills?) we completed the run in 1:54:25. Official time 1:54:33.
My legs and butt are so achy, but 3 little ciders and a massive bowl of gluten free pasta later I am heading home feeling fairly contented with this achievement and am in seriously in need of a nap.
Over lunch Steve and I planned out our next 3 weeks of runs that take us up to the half marathon we are signed up to on 13th May.
Up to today’s run the longest run I did this year is 12Km, and so the idea of booking in 10 miles today and a half marathon in May was to try and get regular training runs underway as we were able to get round a 10Km without too much hassle. I definitely wouldn’t be able to do a half marathon without regular training. So I now have a plan which I will write up when I get home as I really need an incentive to keep on top of it so that I can not only get around a half marathon, but also do so in a decent time!
Today is also the London Marathon. I ran this 4 yeas ago and I think I may want to get a marathon completed this year too! Soooooo just gonna leave that thought here.
Back to the intentions. In Goa I turned up to yoga in a swimming costume one day. The feedback and compliments I got was great and I realise that I have been caught in the trap of keeping myself as covered up as much as possible since I put on weight. Practicing in a swimsuit was liberating and I have decided to do this more despite the cellulite and insecurity.
Due to the time difference when I was away my first yoga class of the day was at 03:30 UK time (8am in Goa). I always struggle with morning practice so thought that coming home I should try and get to the morning class as many days a week as my work schedule permits. The earliest class in the week is at 06:30.
The plan is also to make better record of my running so that J am incentivised to keep up with training.
I really also want to get back to the gym and pick up on the weight training again.
I am really happy with the progress I have made this year and how I’ve kept up with the goals I have set myself. Just need to keep it up.
