My trip to Goa finally arrived on 1st April. I booked it a while ago and it felt like it would be weeks before the time came. Suddenly though the day arrived after a few weeks of work that have been hectic and stressful, I really needed a holiday. Travelling to Goa was good, I arrived on 2nd and made my way to Yoga Magic, the resort I am staying at until the 12th of the month.
There are 20 of us on the retreat, a bunch of people I have met through previous yoga retreats and some new faces. What is amazing about yoga retreats is the opportunity to meet like-minded people in abundance.
The resort has a number of large tents which have 2 rooms and an attached outdoor bathroom. It is fairly rustic, an outdoor eco toilet which requires squatting and the use of wood shavings and a bacteria spray that decomposes the waste. The resort is set amongst trees and plants, it’s a beautiful location.
We are doing one meditation and 2 yoga classes a day. Meditation is either silent meditation at 8am or yoga nidra at 8pm on alternating days. The yoga is generally 60 minutes of Bikram method or hot flow at 9 in the morning before breakfast and a 90 minute class at 4pm before dinner. There is also one intermediate level Bikram method class this week too.
It’s hot here. 34 degrees Celsius. It’s making my practice more flexible and I’m really enjoying it.
In 2015 I did a yoga retreat with a bit of hot flow which I really struggled with, having always focussed on Bikram method before. I then did the same retreat again in 2016 and knew I would have to introduce some flow classes into my regular practice to compliment my Bikram practice. The hot flow involves a lot of hip openers that balances out the lack of them in the Bikram series. So, over the last 6 months I have been doing more flow and here I can really feel that my practice has changed for the better.
The food is incredible, all vegan and gluten free and we have brunch and dinner each day.
On the first day we stayed at the resort and as people were arriving at different times throughout the day there weren’t any yoga classes booked. Since then I have made it to every yoga class.
I’m about to go and chill by the pool so will write a bit more later!
This is the pool. #nofilter
